Dodge powerwagon

Dodge powerwagon

The Dodge Power Wagon was introduced in 1946. It was based on the 3/4-ton Army truck's chassis with a civilian cab and a purpose designed 8-foot cargo box. It had a 126 inch (3,200 mm) wheelbase chassis and featured the 230 cubic-inch flat head six engine, a two-speed transfer case, a 4-speed transmission with a power take off opening which would send power to the front and back of the truck for operating auxiliary equipment and large 9.00/16-8 ply tires on 16X6.50 inch 5-stud wheels. In 1961 the 230 was replaced with the 251 cubic-inch flat head six.The nominal one-ton rated Power Wagon's gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) was 8,700 pounds. Its maximum payload was 3,000 pounds. From 1961-71 the body was called the "sweptline," and transitioned to a more modern body image with varied grilles and paint schemes from 1972 through 1980. In 1975 the 4-wheel drive became full-time with a 2-speed transfer case; this was changed back to part-time 4-wheel drive in 1980 due to the energy crisis. A huge boost in sales followed the 1974 release of the "Club Cab," popular with families and camper towing. The "Crew Cab" was far less common and is quite desirable to collectors for restoration. Utility and function was unmatched by few competing models, as the towing, payload, and snow plowing capacity of the Power Wagon equipped with "Dana 60" 8-lug axles was very popular with municipal and regional road crews.

The Power Wagon was sold through the 1980 model year. A number of engineering and styling improvements were made over the years, but the basic package remained surprisingly constant throughout its life and underwent one last major body change in 1972.

The first light-duty Power Wagons came out in 1957 with the introduction of the W100 and W200 pickups (beginning in 1957 1/2-ton 2WDs were D100s and 4WDs were W100s). These trucks featured conventional cabs and front sheet metal and the cargo boxes used on the 2WD models. Their 4WD mechanical components—axles, transfer cases and transmissions—were sourced from outside manufacturers. Chrysler Corporation owned the New Process Gear Company, the manufacturer of all the transfer cases used in the industry and many of the light-duty truck transmissions.

A one-ton W300 Power Wagon was released in 1958. For the next ten years the Power Wagon lineup consisted of the "military-type" W300M, and the W100, W200, and W300 "civilian-type" Power Wagons. Standard models included pickups and chassis cabs only. Through 1966, W100 Power Wagon Town Panels and Town Wagons were also standard models. In 1966 a W200 Crew Cab pickup was added to the line.

The two-ton W500 Power Wagon (only a chassis cab was built) was introduced in 1956 as the C3-HW, and lasted through the 1971 model year. This was replaced in 1972 with the W600 (also cab and chassis only), which was produced until 1977, when all Dodge medium-duty models were discontinued. To compensate for the loss of the medium-duty W600 a new W400 chassis cab was introduced in 1977.

The Power Wagon nameplate was discontinued in 1981 with the introduction of the Dodge Ram, with the four-wheel-drive models being sold under the "Power Ram" nameplate through 1993. Early 1990s models saw the addition of an optional 6-cylinder Cummins Turbo Diesel engine.

The Animation Show, Vol. 3

The Animation Show, Vol. 3

Mike Judge and Don Hertzfeldt have returned with another collection of incredible animated short films! This program brings together the best work from The Animation Show’s 2007 theatrical program and additional groundbreaking shorts, 17 in all. See the latest work from leading independent animators - Don Hertzfeldt, Mike Judge, Bill Plympton, Joanna Quinn and Pes! There’s an enormous array of great animation that’s rarely seen in the United States. We hope this formative new DVD series will continue to bring more artists and unseen classics into the spotlight for many years to come…

For those who missed Mike Judge and Doug Hertzfeldt's semi-annual Animation Show when it visited their local theater, here's another collection of the best and most imaginative animated shorts culled from the screenings. As with previous volumes, there's a wide variety of animation styles on display in Volume 3, from CGI ("No Room For Gerold," about quarreling animal roommates) and 2-D ("Tyger," based on a poem by William Blake, and featuring puppet work with animation) to live action/animation blends ("Carlitopolis") and one-dimensional work (Hertzfeldt's affecting "Everything Will Be Okay," about its line drawing protagonist's struggles with mental illness). Subject matter is equally diverse, from the wryly comic "Astronauts" and Bill Plympton's "Guide Dog" (a sequel to his "Guard Dog") to the atmospheric "Tyger" and the noir-influenced "Shuteye Hotel." Judge himself contributes an intro courtesy his malcontent alter egos of Beavis and Butthead; the package includes cnversations with several of the filmmakers about their shorts, as well as text interviews with all 11 filmmakers, which can be viewed in PDF format through the viewer's DVD-ROM. Trailers and previews for other MTV programs and previous volumes of The Animation Show round out the extras. -- Paul Gaita

Ray Bradbury Comics
By Michael Vance

The body isn’t cold: the knife in its chest is cold. Its ungrieving widow flanked by reporters, police, and coroners make a bizarre wake. The victim is virtually forgotten, and he’s mad.

Is there a critical temperature that sparks murder? Are there two actuaries who know?

A strange carnival with a black ferris wheel is in town that eats years or returns them with each rotation of this wheel. Is it a time machine or a killing machine?

There stories. Three blurbs. Have they piqued your curiosity? If not, you’ll miss one of the best comic books of this or any year. Good Lord, here’s a comic that adults will love!!

”Ray Bradbury Comics” features adaptations of classic short stories from a master storyteller. No one touches Bradbury. He’s better at SF than Heinlein, better at Horror than Stephen King, and the best at Fantasy outside of J. R. R. Tolkein. These adaptations live up to his standards.

Bradbury’s strength is in finding bizarre twists in ordinary events, in believable characters, eerie atmosphere, and almost a poetic rhythm to his words.

The art in each tale is divergent, stylistic, and dramatic. “It Burns Me Up” is cartoonish, abstract, and downright chilling. “Touched by Fire” is reality exaggerated, capturing a sense of “this could happen here”! And “The Black Ferris” is cartoonish, dark, real, and just plain weird. Each tale’s coloring is perfect.

This title puts to rest a bogus debate among both comic fans and professionals: is art more important than words in this medium? When they work well together, comic books and strips are powerful. When either is weak, the work suffers. In ”Ray Bradbury Comics”, the wedding of word and art is almost perfect.

”Ray Bradbury Comics” #2/$2.95, 30 pates, Topps Comics adaptations by Harvey Kurtzman, Matt Wagner, Sean Phillips and possibly Al Feldstein/art by Wagner, Phillips, and Jack Davis/available in comics shops.

Angels We Have Heard On High...

Angels We Have Heard On High...

There's a little motel on US-1, in Holly Hill, just north of Daytona, that does some of the most phenomenal lighting displays around. I had no idea, even though I worked next door for years, since from the street, you wouldn't know just how extensive it is.

This year, my former boss, who is a friend, walked over with me to show me the lights. It was amazing! From Spongebob, to a nativity, to homemade light orbs constructed out of plastic drinking glasses, to a moving ferris wheel, to these lovely angels, it's truly awesome. The driveway is opened up to people for drive throughs, but on foot you can see more, as you can walk through a passageway between the small cottages, and onto the next street, where the neighbors have also given in to the decorating spirit of Christmas, and have lit their trees, and even suspended ornaments which hang in mid air, like balloons, and parachutes! It's definitely one of the Daytona Beach area's best spots for Christmas lights!

Below are some of the cool sights! I have to apologize for the quality. My cameras aren't too great at night. I think you can get an idea of how beautiful the displays were, though. The pics can't do it justice, since there was SO much going on all over the place- on rooves, in the air, moving, blinking, animation...a feast for the eyes!

The Animator's Survival Kit, Expanded Edition: A Manual of Methods, Principles and Formulas for Classical, Computer, Games, Stop Motion and Internet Animators

The definitive book on animation, from the Academy Award-winning animator behind Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

Animation is one of the hottest areas of filmmaking today--and the master animator who bridges the old generation and the new is Richard Williams. During his fifty years in the business, Williams has been one of the true innovators, winning three Academy Awards and serving as the link between Disney's golden age of animation by hand and the new computer animation exemplified by Toy Story.

Perhaps even more important, though, has been his dedication in passing along his knowledge to a new generation of animators so that they in turn could push the medium in new directions. In this book, based on his sold-out master classes in the United States and across Europe, Williams provides the underlying principles of animation that every animator--from beginner to expert, classic animator to computer animation whiz --needs. Urging his readers to "invent but be believable," he illustrates his points with hundreds of drawings, distilling the secrets of the masters into a working system in order to create a book that will become the standard work on all forms of animation for professionals, students, and fans.

I used Rust-Oleum "steel" wheel paint. My old paint was Dupli-Color "graphite" wheel paint. On that, I just sprayed it and lightly sanded it, giving a brushed bare metal look. I almost did the same this time, but decided instead to do a clear coat. For a $30 rattle can job, it looks decent.

Hot Wheels: 35 Years of Speed, Power Performance and Attitude

Hot Wheels: 35 Years of Speed, Power Performance and Attitude

Silver Medal Winner at 2004 International Automotive Media Awards! In the 1960s, diecast cars and trucks were simple, stodgy, and clunky. They were hobby items, not toys, often displayed but seldom played with. They lacked "play value." Enter Mattel. In 1968 they introduced the first 18 Hot Wheels(tm) cars to the world. The vehicles were cool looking, they were well-detailed, and most of all, they could go like heck. Following the vision of a courageous leader and a creative group of designers, engineers, and marketers, Mattel revolutionized the diecast world with its 1/64th-scale cars on hot mag wheels that could move at speeds far beyond their competition.Thirty-five years and a few billion cars later, Hot Wheels(tm) cars are still number one. These junior racers are very hot collectibles and favorite toys for kids of all ages. Mattel celebrates the 35th anniversary of Hot Wheels(tm) in 2003, and author Randy Leffingwell takes you through their complete history from the early planning to the latest cars coming off the line. With full access to Mattel resources, including the top-secret Hot Wheels(tm) Design Center, Leffingwell reveals who made the cars go fast, who came up with the colors, the names, the logos, and the unique models. Interviews with more than 70 individuals-including Mattel founder and Hot Wheels(tm) creator Elliot Handler as well as legendary designers like Harry Bradley, Ira Gilford, and Larry Wood-allow the story to be told through the words of those who were there making Hot Wheels(tm) history. This highly illustrated book is filled with images of rare design drawings and prototypes, plus photos of all your favorite Hot Wheels(tm) cars., This book is the official, licensed, complete Hot Wheels(tm) history. , Illustrated with design drawings, photos of original wood molds and brass prototypes, and many other rare memorabilia from Hot Wheels(tm) history., Includes interviews and first-hand accounts from the people who were there from the very beginning as well as those who designed the cars.

Our trip began with a free mini van.

Our trip began with a free mini van.

So where was I the first weekend of June? Why no other place than Waterloo, NY. Mind you, our friends, Larry and 'Phie (aka Carolyne) were getting married in Ithaca, but Warren's usual thriftiness had us staying about an hour and a half away in a cheaper hotel. Not that I'm complaining! The good people of Waterloo showed us a nice a time as they could with what little they had. Anyways, our trip began with getting our rental car for the weekend. Surprise! You get a free upgrade! What's that? It's a mini-van? Why? Oh cause all your efficient smaller cars are rented. Okay then.

It wasn't as bad as I thought it was gonna be. After a while I enjoyed it! It was like having our own house on wheels. We left the airport and headed to our muggy, hot destination, with all the sounds of crickets and cicadas you could want! I miss the east coast.

I've been working on this for a long-ish time. It's for a friend who lost her pup. There are nine fabrics in the quilt that are from the dog's bed, bandannas, etc. The rest is from my stash.

I've had the color arches pieced for a while but the 60 blocks of summer challenge helped push me to do the curved piecing (I was afraid--new skill) so I think its fair to call this four blocks. Plus, I hear the 60 BoS police are pretty easy like that.

I'm not good in such things, but in this QAL there are no strict deadlines (you can join any time) - so this is perfect for me:)

On the photo you can see Robert Kaufman' swatches, which I want to use in this QAL.
