Hot Wheels Collectors Information
This car is #2/30 of the 2010 Hot Wheels Vintage Racing collection.

About the 1968 Mercury Cougar
Not much changed for the Cougar in its second year. The addition of federally mandated side marker lights was the major change, but the biggest changes were under the hood and in performance for the XR-7 model. Three new engines were added to the option list this year: the 230 hp (172 kW) 302 in?, 4-barrel V8; the 335 hp (250 kW) 428 in?, 4-barrel V8; and the 390 hp (291 kW) 427 in?, 4-barrel V8. In addition, the 289 in3 engine was made standard on base cars without the interior decor group mid way through the model year. Mercury was serious about the Cougar being the performance icon for the company. The XR-7G, named for Mercury road racer Dan Gurney, came with all sorts of performance add-ons, including a hood scoop, Lucas fog lamps and hood pins. Engine selection was limited only to the 302, 390, and 428 V8. A grand total of 619 XR-7Gs were produced, and only 14 G's were produced with the 428 CJ. The mid-year 7.0 L GT-E package was available on both the standard and XR-7 Cougars and came with the 427 V8. The 428 Cobra Jet Ram Air was available in limited numbers on the GT-E beginning 1 April 1968. Conservatively rated at 335 hp (250 kW) , the 428 Cobra Jet could produce much more (306 kW (410 hp)) from the factory. A grand total of 602 GT-Es were produced, 358 with the 427 and 244 with the 428.

About Dan Gurney
The son of a Metropolitan Opera star, Dan Gurney was born in Port Jefferson, New York, but moved to California as a teenager. He has been a driver, a car manufacturer, and a team owner at racing's highest levels since 1958. Gurney also won races in the Indy Car, NASCAR, Can-Am, and Trans-Am Series. Gurney is the first driver to win races in Formula One (1962), NASCAR (1963), and Indy Car (1967).

Even though Ruben is almost 13, A TEENAGER, I can’t help but feel all warm and happy when I run across these little guys in Ruben’s room. Today I re-arranged his room, set up his desk, computer and his internet. I know, late bloomer right?

Ruben is a collector and of nothing special actually. Trash, papers, coins, wrappers, spears {a small piece of paper he folds like 30 times into a spear shaped thing that drives me crazy for literally YEARS now}, random lame things you can get in a quarter machine, and it use to be cars too. I’m always surprised to run into them at the age he is. He no longer plays with them but keeps them {not all of course, he’s had hundreds over time} and I just love that. Ruben’s favorite thing was always “car sets”, that’s what he would ask for when it came to ANY holiday, even Easter! Today, it’s a much different request. Game consuls, $60 games, iPods, new cell phones, and the electronic list goes on and on. Oh how I long for the days where a $1.00 Hot Wheel made his eyes light up!

Resistance 2 takes up right where the Resistance: Fall of Man left off. Hale is kidnapped by a black ops group in London and forced to Iceland for research testing. The full scope of what happens in Iceland is a mystery, but the game reveals that as Hale wrestles with the insidious Chimera war machine, he must also battle the virus raging inside his body that threatens to transform him into the very creature he fights against.
The Return of the Chimera
The Chimera are the main enemies of the Resistance franchise. For those new to the story, it is believed that the Chimera are of extraterrestrial origin. Yet, it is known that their army expands by infecting humans with a virus that transforms humans into Chimera while inside a cocoon. These creatures are much stronger than humans, and usually have multiple yellow eyes. They have remarkable healing abilities and thrive in very cold temperatures, which has led them to alter the Earth's climate to a much lower temperature that better suits their habitat requirements.
Resistance 2 introduces several new Chimeran enemies with a host of new powers. A few new characters include the Chameleon, a creature that can cloak itself completely and kill a player in one, destructive blow, and the Grim which are a terrifying species that attack in hordes.
The Battle Moves to the United States
After the brief opening scenes in London and then Iceland, game play jumps ahead two years and across the globe to San Francisco. Giant, mile-long motherships slowly cruise through the skies demolishing the city with fiery beams. Burned and mangled, it appears that there will be little to no survivors. As the battle continues across the United States you're sure to encounter many new, deranged, and much more powerful enemies.
In Chicago, you'll be joined by a squad of soldiers all carrying different weapons. To survive and move through the level, you'll need to work together moving from cover to cover, setting up your squad in a smart and defensive manner. These are just a few examples of the challenging levels you'll encounter as you battle your way across the country to save mankind. And if you're hoping for new weapons, Resistance 2 won't leave you disappointed. The US-based campaign is loaded with tons of new weapons to enhance the overall game play and first-person shooter experience.
Online game play Goes BIG
Powered by Insomniac Games' third-generation PlayStation 3 technology, Resistance 2 delivers several console gaming breakthroughs. Most impressive are the stand-alone, class-based, online co-operative campaign mode that can accommodate up to eight players, and the mind-blowing, 60-player, squad-based online competitive multiplayer battle fest. This unprecedented 60-player option could revolutionize online multiplayer game play, and is sure to provide countless hours of action-packed fun.

The Art of Precast Concrete

The Art of Precast Concrete

As a building material, precast concrete allows a wide range of sculptural forms and design options. By treating the surface in various ways, fascinating textures and fine finishes can be produced. This book provides a systematic overview of the variety of applications for such concrete elements throughout Europe. Author David Bennett provides in-depth information on newly developed, especially lightweight forms of concrete such as GRC (Glass-Fibre Reinforced Concrete), Ductal and CRC (Compact Reinforced Composite). A selection of some 24 projects which are of particular significance, are documented in detail and provide a wealth of inspiring design ideas. The appendix comprises an overview of the building practices in the individual European countries and the availability of concrete elements. Amongst the buildings documented are the Scottish Parliament Building in Edinburgh by Enric Miralles Benedetta Tagliabue, the Synagogue in Dresden by Wandel, Hoefer, Lorch + Hirsch, and the Mexican Embassy in Berlin by GonzA?lez de LeA?n.

Truck Wheel Balancing

truck wheel balancing

    wheel balancing
  • A procedure that ensures that the weight of the wheel is distributed evenly to improve performance and cut tire wear. Static balancing distributes the weight of the wheel evenly around the axle or Spindle and is done with the wheels off the vehicle.

  • The method of reducing the hammer blow caused by the action of the pistons driving the cranks as the crank approaches bottom dead centre. Driving wheels had weights fitted into their rims to act as a counter balance. (PRC)

PSIclops XL180 is built from a heavy duty aluminum casing around an illuminated inflation dial. (Batteries Included) Truckers, RV owners, or anyone with tires needing 35PSI or more will want to have this in the vehicle as it will save the day on a low tire or simply checking the air pressure

Motion blur with truck wheels

Motion blur with truck wheels

Usable as design background for transport communication etc

This image was taken with an extreme 15 mm wide angle, so the truck drove by just a meter away. The speed of the truck was quite slow (appr. 30 km/h), so I could get the chance to try different angles.

Shutter speed was only 1/25, but enough to force the motion into the image. I used the 12-24 DX lens from Nikon, but forced the D700 to FX, so I could use the full wide angle of the lens. I did have to stamp away a bit of the dark corners.
Motion blur 100% out of the camera.

White balance was set to cloudy, to get a bit of a warm feeling/sun fall. The image was taken in the early afternoon.

I like the composition of these two red rim wheels. Each at the opposite cross direction of the picture and gives a good balance view. If you look carefully in the center of the rim, my reflaction was captured in both rims. Need to make myself invisible attending to such event in future.
